Pheasant Rearing Pens Approved for Imperial Valley
Imperial Valley's future as a paradise for pheasant hunters was virtually assured Monday when the board of supervisors voted $750 to help provide rearing pens for the birds to be furnished by the state game farm.
The $750 was included in the board of trade budget at the request of R. B. Whitelaw, representing the Imperial Valley Fish and Game Conservation commission.
It is expected a total of 5,000 birds will be released in the valley every year. Whitelaw declared the pheasant hunting will attract thousands of persons to the valley every year and result in material gain to valley residents.
Rearing pens will be installed on property east of Brawley and are expected to be completed by Nov. 1. Whitelaw said the property was donated to the commission and will be deeded to the county. The pheasants, of the Chinese variety, this year will be provided by the state game farm at Chino.
