STATE ELECTORS TO CAST VOTES FOR ROOSEVELT
SEVEN FROM FLORIDA TO OFFICIALLY DEPOSIT SAME IN ELECTORAL COLLEGE ON JANUARY 4
(By Associated Press)
TALLAHASSEE, Fla., Dec. 30.
Florida's seven Democratic presidential electors will meet here at noon January 4 and cast their seven votes in the electoral college for Franklin D. Roosevelt for president and John Nance Garner for vice-president of the United States. They were nominated in the democratic state primary last June 7 and elected in the general election of November 8. It was the votes cast for them in November which returned Florida to the democratic column after the state left the "Solid South" in 1928 to go for President Herbert Hoover.
Florida law requires the presidential electors to assemble at the capital the day before the first Wednesday in January following their election and to report to the governor. Then on the first Wednesday of the month they meet at noon in the capitol and cast their electoral votes for president and vice-president.
This year, for the first time, Florida has seven electoral votes, having gained one vote in the congressional reapportionment following the 1930 census.
Florida's electors this year are: William W. Ayers, George M. Dorman, William Fairbanks, Herbert W. Fishler, W. B. Lanier, G. T. McClellan and Hugh C. Sparkman.
