A fire and building ordinance establishing a new fire zone and setting up more rigid building restrictions were passed by the Tabor City Board of Commissioners Tuesday evening. Acting under authority given by state statute, commissioners accepted the ordinance which had been prepared at their request by City Attorney R. B. Mallard. Motion for adoption came after a discussion of the various features.

One of the principal features of the ordinance is the requirement that a building permit must be obtained from Fire Chief Frank Young, who was appointed as city inspector, before repairs to old buildings or construction of new buildings may be begun.

This covers all construction within the city limits whether within the city limits or outside of the fire zone.

The new ordinance enlarges the fire zone to include new business and semi-business districts which have been built up since the old fire zone was established a number of years ago.

Small fees for the permits, half of which will be retained by the building inspector and the other half turned over to the city treasury, were set up. These fees are in line with the policy of the smaller towns throughout the state.

It was pointed out that the new ordinance will not work any hardship upon anybody, but will establish uniform requirements to avoid fire hazards and protect builders against costly alterations through failure to comply with building regulation.

Briefly the procedure is as follows:

Before starting to repair an old building or erect a new building, see Building Inspector Frank Young.

Request for a permit will be considered and if the proposed repairs or building plans meet the requirements, a building permit will be issued.

Call on Mr. Young for an inspection during the progress of construction when changes in plans are required.

On no account, start repairs or a new building without a permit.

Failure to obtain one, commissioners pointed out, may result in a costly delay.

ZONE BOUNDARIES

The new fire zone section reads as follows:

"That the area lying and being within the following boundaries shall be the fire district: Beginning in the center of the Railroad where Seventh street crosses said railroad and runs with the center of Seventh street to the center of Lewis, street. thence south with the Highway: 701 north with the center of Wall street the railroad to Garrell street, thence with the center of Garrell street eastward to the center of Rogers street, thence with the center of Rogers street north to the center of Live Oak street. thence east with Live Oak street to Wall street, thence north with the center of Wall street to Seventh street. thence with the center of Seventh street west to the point of beginning."
