CURRENT OPINION.

Cooling the Sermon.

(Richmond Advocate.)

When a public person is on the eve of an oration on platform, in Parliament or pulpit, the smallest annoyance often discharges the electric force gathered in his brain. The wife of Disraeli, in passing with him to her carriage, which was to carry him to the House of Commons where he intended at once to make a speech, had her fingers crushed in the gate, but she never let him know of the accident. What preacher has not had a sermon damaged by the visit just before service of a person with a grievance or vexing story or a trifling piece of talk? Never call on a Pastor between breakfast and the morning service. Never button-hole him as he is entering the church. A sermon ought not to cool: red hot out of the cannon.
