Full Text

Mount Etna, in Sicily, is just now giving out one of its grand pyrotechnic displays. The eruption commenced on Wednesday last. At night a shower of balls of fire were thrown to a great height and burst aloft like rockets, making a magnificent display. All through the night streams of lava were pouring out from the craters causing a roar like the rolling of artillery. Several villages at the base of the mountain are in great danger from the opening of fresh craters. Piedimont is in almost total darkness from clouds of ashes. It's a free show, in fact the greatest show on earth next to Vesuvius, but a very uncertain place of residence.
