Full Text

District Convention.

The Standard of Saturday last contains the proceedings of a democratic meeting held in Wake County, on the 19th inst, at which delegates were appointed to attend the proposed Convention to be held at Nashville on Thursday next. And we observe that a democratic meeting has been called in Franklin, to be held this day.

The subject was freely discussed among our citizens the present week, and the general impression was, that a Convention or a public meeting, was wholly unnecessary at the present time, as Gen. Daniel has announced himself a candidate for re-election, and not a complaint has been heard from any portion of the democratic party, as to his principles or conduct as a Representative. Under the impression, therefore, that no possible benefit could be derived from holding a Convention, and as Gen. Daniel is decidedly their choice, no public meeting was held.
