What is this article about?
Correspondent Benedict criticizes the education of girls in London, arguing they are taught frivolous genteel accomplishments like dancing and fine work instead of practical household skills such as marketing and making linen, rendering them unable to perform useful tasks. He urges the paper to publish this to influence his wife, who insists on this approach for their daughter despite limited means; the paper inserts it as general parental instruction.

Full Text
A Correspondent, signed Benedict, complains of the wrong Education generally given to Girls: instead of being instructed in Marketing, and other household Affairs; he says, they are now taught to do nothing but Dance, or what goes under the Denomination of genteel Accomplishments, such as Fine-Work, &c. that they are absolutely unable to make their own Linen; or, in short, to do any Thing which is plain and useful. This, he justly observes, is a wrong Way of bringing up Children, and desires we would take some Notice of it in our Paper, that his Wife may see it, who, he tells us, is obstinately bent on educating his only Daughter in the foolish Manner above-mentioned; especially when she knows his Circumstances are such, that he cannot afford to give her much Fortune. [This is inserted by Way of Instruction to Parents in general.]
