ATLANTA, Ga. (ANP) The two Negro schools which are members of the Southern Regional Education Board received a total of $782,250 during the three-year history of the organization. Meharry Medical college, Nashville, Tenn., and Tuskegee Institute, Ala. are the colored schools which are members of the 14-state education pact.
Meharry received $510,750, and Tuskegee received $271,500. Meharry received its funds for the training of medical and dental students, while Tuskegee received its for the training of veterinarians.
The SREB was organized in 1949 when 14 southern states decided to ignore state lines and allow each member state access to the educational specialties of the other.
The organization's particular area of activity is in the fields of medicine, dentistry and veterinary science. It allocates $1,500 per student per year for medical and dental training, and $1,000 for veterinary medicine.
