Louisiana.—The salt mountain, the value
of which our democrats had calculated to
exceed some thousands of times, the price
to be paid for Louisiana, has already disappeared, and another more serious evil now
is threatened. It appears by the following
extract, that a certain gentleman is authorized to sell lands within the territory claimed by the Emperor of Louisiana, the proceeds to be the property of the King of Spain. Who would not admire the wise arrangements of Mr. Jefferson and his friends.
when on the same ground, we are "erecting ports of entry" and a Spanish Agent is
selling the soil, for " the King his master."
NEW-ORLEANS, AUG. 8.
It was yesterday reported and this morning we are told from a correct source, that
the late Spanish Intendant, Morales, has
received orders from his court to sell all the
vacant lands in East and West Florida, and
it is said sales will be immediately made, even of lands within the boundary claimed by the
United States
