BUREAU IN THE ACORN

Victory gardeners are being urged to continue their fine efforts in behalf of another year's production of vegetables, last year's gardens, according to official statistics, having contributed impressively towards the nation's food needs.

We have seen the estimate of Victory garden production in imposing figures somewhere in print, the figures perhaps indicating that government statisticians last harvest-time visited all the ambitious neighborhoods of the country in quest of an approximate picture of the nationwide project.

Thinking about it—don't you recall last fall seeing a funny little old fellow who looked somewhat like the wizard Einstein, counting your rows of spuds and punkins? Maybe we see the light. Maybe he was the nucleus of one more mammoth government bureau.

Great big oaks from little acorns grow!
