NORFOLK, June 27.
A letter from Washington informs us of some particulars worth noticing. The officers of the several departments are sedulously engaged in revising and arranging the documents of the former administration. Among certain circles in Washington, discoveries are spoken of. Some papers escaped the effects of the late conflagrations in the War and Treasury Departments. Expenditures of the public money are mentioned, to the amount of about 400,000 dollars, for which no appropriations had been made by Congress! It is also said, that two notes or memorials have been found in the departments of state, signed by General Maitland, the British agent in the case of Toussaint, &c. which indicate a connection between a late secretary and that agent, relative to St. Domingo. Such a connection was mentioned by the Aurora many months ago, and many persons disbelieved it, because that intelligent paper had asserted it. What is intended by many persons, is, the readers of the Philadelphia and United States Gazettes.
