SCOUTS RECEIVED CHARTER SUNDAY
Impressive Service at Majestic in the Afternoon

A representative group of El Doradoans interested in the Boy Scout movement was present at the Majestic theatre at 3 o'clock Sunday afternoon when the De Soto Council of Boy Scouts was officially ushered into the national organization with the receipt of its charter.

Presentation of the charter was made by Stanley Harris of Chattanooga, Tenn., scout executive for four states who made the principal address. President O. L. Bodenhamer of the De Soto council who acted as chairman, accepted the charter in behalf of Union and eight other counties included in the sixth district.

The service opened with invocation by Reverend Frank R. Dudley of the Presbyterian church, followed by the singing of America by the entire gathering. President Bodenhamer then explained the purpose of the meeting. One number was rendered by the male quartet of the Presbyterian church.

After the scouts had renewed their oaths of allegiance and scout oaths and were examined council officers and others in charge in El Dorado were introduced. Included among those presented were O. L. Bodenhamer, president; Albert Rowell, treasurer; J. K. Mahony, El Dorado chairman; Smend Powell, national representative; Jesse J. Craig, financier; Henry Davis, troop organization; and Henry Rector, court of honor. Short talks were made by each.

Scout Executive Ernest E. St. John, who is secretary of De Soto Council, also made a short talk on scout work. Scoutmasters Miller Suitt, Lehigh, Hargrave and Nicholas were present and had charge of the scouts in the march from the Legion hall to the theatre.

The singing of the "Star Spangled Banner" and benediction by Reverend P. Q. Rorie concluded the service.

Miss Carrie Maud Bevill directed the singing.
