This day sailed from this port the sloop Susannah, commanded by Capt. Joseph Hunter, manned with upwards of thirty brave citizens, and mounting 12 guns, with plenty of ammunition, small arms, pistols, swords, &c. The above sloop has commission and full authority, to take, via et armis, seize and bring into this port, a schooner commanded by Angregora, a Spanish picaroon, cruising off to windward, in open defiance of the laws, and piratically taking and robbing every vessel which cannot avoid his malignant and unlawful shafts—But it is hoped, by every good friend to commerce, that the perpetrator may meet the just reward which he merits.
May 2. The Spanish pirate has made his appearance among the Keys to windward. The measures that have been adopted by government in consequence of receiving the information promise a speedy and effectual check to his career.
