FIRE DESTROYS BARROOM AT 516 LOUISA STREET ALL PREPARATIONS HAD BEEN MADE FOR OPENING BUSINESS IN BUILDING TODAY

The second destructive fire to hit Key West in three days early this morning burned to the ground a barroom at 516 Louisa street, which was to have had its opening today.

Fire Chief Harry Baker said the building, which was to be occupied by Albert Lopez, was a total loss by the time he and his men reached the scene shortly before 5 o'clock this morning. The first alarm came at 4:45, and the building apparently was almost completely destroyed before the blaze was noticed.

Key West Electric company had installed a power meter only yesterday and firemen said carpenters had remained in the building until midnight to complete their work in time for the opening today.

Baker this morning planned an investigation but up to now the cause of the blaze has not been determined.
