NEW YORK, June 5.

Yesterday's canvassing has produced the following revision. The committee having, (after going through the counties of Otsego, Onondaga, and Herkimer) found a total majority of 1425 votes for Mr. Jay, and for Mr. Van Rensselaer, 695.

The counties this day to be canvassed will doubtless throw a still greater majority in favour of the leading candidates.

Thus [may be anticipated] has ended an election, that has been carried on by the opposite parties with as much, if not more zeal, than any former one; attended with circumstances, however, which may be said with truth to have been discouraging to the friends of Mr. Jay, and which, consequently gave new vigour to the opposing party; for, at the time of his election, there was a great probability that his arrival would not be timely enough for the acceptance of the office for which he was supported; therefore many votes were withheld, which would have been added to the present majority. But, notwithstanding this, as well as the circumstance of his being held up with a man high in public estimation, till he is left to experience those agreeable sensations which must naturally arise on his being this day, (by the large majority of 2000 votes) elected Governor of the state of New-York. May his administration be marked with those traits which have characterized him as an eminent, wise, and virtuous statesman and politician— And then the resignation of his worthy predecessor, will not continue to be so much lamented by a great majority of his fellow-citizens.
