Airlift Trailers to
DEW Line Sites
DAYTON, Ohio, (AP) -- Six giant C-124 Globemasters left Wright Patterson AFB last week with seven 36-foot cold weather trailers for use as quarters and office space on the far north DEW line.
The trailers' first stop was scheduled for Thule AFB, Greenland. From there they will be transported to the Air Force's Distant Early Warning line, a vast network of radar sites stretching across frozen regions of North America.
One of the huge transports was able to load two of the trailers in its spacious cargo compartment.
Equipped with skids, the trailers will be pulled to their permanent sites by tractors which left on a simultaneous airlift from Donaldson AFB, N. C., last Monday. Each of the living units will accommodate six men with sleeping quarters in three compartments.
