Read the following, it will suit Illinois as well as Missouri:

Attention Americans of Missouri.

Editor St. Louis Intelligencer.--Americans of Missouri! The attention of the whole Northwest is riveted upon you. But few days will elapse ere you will have an opportunity to show your strength, to be victorious or else defeated. To this issue are turned the eyes of thousands upon thousands of true Americans. They await the issue with calmness, but yet they have an earnest desire for the success of the party. You have the candidates, you have the strength--you must not be slow to act.--Let the enemy feel the weight of your metal. Much depends upon the result. If the American Party of Missouri triumph, so will the entire Northwest follow her example. The battle-cry must be raised--Americans must triumph, the country must be saved.

What is the position of the political parties now before the people: You have the untutored Democracy with James Buchanan for their leader. And does Mr. Buchanan's antecedents warrant the belief that he will exert any influence or authority to restore union and peace to the distracted country? We answer, no! His career for over half a century, gives unmistakeable proofs that he is not worthy to fill the chair of Chief Magistracy in the present state of affairs.

We will turn to the Black Republican candidate. Who is John Charles Fremont?--Is he fit to rule the country in this trying hour? Does his party acknowledge and sustain the rights of the South? Do they not wish to elect their candidate upon the sectional question of slavery? Will any Black Republican paper dare deny this?

Now is this John C. Fremont entitled to the respect and confidence of any party save those God-forsaken Abolitionists?

We will leave the two great sectional parties, now before the people, for them to dispose of them as in their judgement seemeth best. We will say a word about our party and our candidates. The American Party I hold as the only true national party in existence; it is the only truly national and conservative party now in the United States. It is the party which knows no North, no South, no East, no West, but has the interest of the whole Union at heart. It is upon those principles we wish to carry the present canvass, and defeat and forever rebuke those traitors and demagogues who have so basely betrayed their country and their trust. Mr. Fillmore is the only national man in the field--no man dare deny this--no man can say the same of either or both of the other candidates. We take the ground that no man who has not the love of country, the love of her institutions--political and religious--and who does not cherish the love of American manufacturers, and will not support with his might the industry of the American people, to the exclusion of foreign commerce, is not worthy to be President. We are happy to say that Mr. Fillmore embraces all those requisite qualities. He has the Union and perpetuity of these States at heart; and, if elected, will exert himself to his utmost extent to restore peace and tranquillity to our down-trodden and misruled country.

We wish to see the American Party triumph in Missouri, at the coming election, by a large majority. We wish and hope that every State officer may be selected. It is the earnest wish of every true patriot in Illinois, both in and out of the American Party.--Old Line Whig.
