Full Text

Naples, Feb. 7. The Redoubts which are making to protect our Harbour from the Attempts of the Enemy, are carried on with great Dispatch; and the same Diligence is exerted to complete the Entrenchments along the Coasts, which are planted with Abundance of Artillery. We infer from these Steps, that the Court foresees that the King of Spain will oblige it to take Part in the War between England and Spain. As in that Case Sicily would be equally exposed to the Attempt of the English, the Ministry has given Orders for securing the Coasts of that Island.

Great Numbers of Sailors in this Kingdom daily enter into the Service of Spain. Their Pay is ten Ducats per Month; and as an Encouragement, three Months Pay is advanced to those who desire it.
