THE SOLDIER BOYS
A Large Meeting at the City Hall Last Evening.

The volunteer military company is progressing in a fine manner. The young men interested held a large meeting at the Police Court room last evening, there being about forty in attendance out of a total of nearly fifty who have signed a regular muster roll. There being some question as to the legality of the election for officers held Saturday evening, when there were less than thirty-two, the minimum number for a company present, the election was ordered taken over again with the following result: Captain, George E. Boyd, Jr.; First Lieutenant, D. W. Martin; Second Lieutenant, Harry Boyd; First Sergeant, R. J. Smythe. The non-commissioned officers were not elected, the Captain being authorized to appoint men to the vacancies. A committee of three consisting of Captain Boyd, Lieutenant Martin and Private Foster, was appointed to prepare a petition to Council, asking for the use of the Second ward market hall as an armory, and a like committee of three, consisting of Captain Boyd, Lieutenant Boyd and Private St. Myers, to draft by-laws. A roll of members, and the officers elect will be sent to Charleston at once, and an adjourned meeting will be held at the Police Court room Thursday evening, at which time the committees are expected to report. Steps are being taken by about a dozen gentlemen to organize another company, to be composed of men of somewhat mature years, say from thirty to thirty-five. A meeting is talked of for some time during the present week.
