It appears by private letters from Corunna, that some unsuccessful attempts have been made in the northern provinces of Spain to effect a counter revolution. A few discontented priests in conjunction with deserters from the famous regiment of "Guides," of massacring memory, and some members of a band of mountain robbers, had issued proclamations, and formed a junta which they called the apostolic. Immediately after receiving intelligence of this treason, the provisional junta of Gallicia, which had been suspended by the meeting of the Cortes, resumed its local functions, and dispatched Espinosa to disperse the motley crew, consisting according to some accounts, of 2000, and by others of 4000 persons. They, however retired into Portugal without waiting his approach. The political chief of Galicia had written to Madrid where the news arrived on the 24th ult. to announce the dissolution of the apostolic junta. Neither at Corunna, nor in the capital had the movements of the disaffected produced any serious uneasiness. The cortes are proceeding quietly, but assiduously, in the preparatory measures requisite to enable them to enter with effect upon the task of political, military, commercial, and agricultural improvement.
