Choctaw Sheriff Arrested For the Murder of a Gentleman Named Long, Nine Years Ago,
Denison, Tex., Aug. 14.
About nine years ago a cattleman named Long, residing near Caddo, I. T., was found dead one morning at the corner of his pasture with a bullet hole through his brain. Officers searched for the slayer of Long, but the manner of his taking off has always remained a mystery.
His death was not a great surprise to those who knew the man, and perhaps for this reason no active search was ever made to discover by what means he had met his end or at whose hands.
The matter had been dropped and almost forgotten till it was reopened yesterday by the arrest of Tandy Folsom, of Caddo, I. T., sheriff of Blue county Indian Territory. Folsom was arrested by Deputy United States Marshals Polk Warren and Mitchell and taken to Sherman, where he was confined in jail on the charge of killing Long. Folsom was at the time of Long's killing a deputy United States marshal and a member of the Indian police, and it is said that Long had threatened his life. Folsom will have an examining trial before Commissioner Grant tomorrow.
