WILLIAMSBURG. OCTOBER 23.
There is certain intelligence arrived this day in town, that the brave Col. Baylor, after being twice bayoneted, still survives, and is in a fair way of recovery: but that Major Clough, a gallant officer with sundry others of his regiment, were slain, being put to the sword, and butchered in the most cruel and barbarous manner by the British peace-seeking savages.
O ye knight-errant Commissioners, ye sordid fallen patriots, ye shallow hollow-hearted politicians, get you home to Old England, and sing lullabies to the conscience of your bloody-minded foolish King. Tell his wicked and abandoned Ministers, and your venal Parliament, that they have torn the brightest diadem from his crown; that ruin awaits them, just ready to fall on their and your guilty heads; and that America, secure in her virtue and independence, defies their utmost malice, and is separated from them for ever.
