As he completed his last work day with Alcoa Mining Division, Jim Brazil had a big smile for his co-workers who had gathered at the Mines Machine Shop to pay tribute to their close friend who had been with the Company forty-two years.
As a farewell gift, men jointly gave Jim a portable Television. Leonard Anderson, machinist made the presentation for fellow-workers.
Jim Brazil, at the time of his retirement was General Mines Foreman. He is a native of Bauxite and a son of the late Columbus Brazil - landowner, farmer, and the first general foreman and resident manager of Alcoa's early operations here at Bauxite.
Jim worked off and on during summer months for Alcoa prior to 1916 but his first full-time post began in April of that year at Calderwood, Tennessee as asst. chief time keeper for the Knoxville Power Company. His second assignment was that of a foreman of construction for Tallahassee Power Company, Tapoco, North Carolina. In 1919 he returned to Bauxite as divisional foreman of mines -- and from 1923 to 1949 was General Underground Mines Foreman.
Jim has been a member of Alcoa at 25 Year Service Club since 1941. He is an ardent sports enthusiast, and you could always depend on his presence in the cheering stand.
Works Manager, J. Thad Watters presents Jim Brazil with letters of congratulations from well wishers. In the background are his co-workers. Claud Sutton, Jim Daugherty, Leonard Anderson, who presented the Television.
