The Winnemucca Silver State says: The Legislature made a raid on the School Fund to the extent of $100,000. This money, the Carson papers claim, is to be expended for a dam to store water in the Carson river. We have not a copy of the bill, but learn that it provides for four commissioners who are to select sites for reservoirs and dams for water storage, and that a part of the appropriation might, at the option of the commissioners, be expended on the Truckee or the Humboldt rivers. If such is the fact, the commissioners must be partial to Carson should the whole amount of the appropriation be expended in storing water for the mills in that vicinity. The policy of appropriating money from the School Fund of the State for damming the Carson or any other stream in the State for the benefit of a few will scarcely receive the approval of the people. The State now owes the School Fund over half million dollars, and there is no good reason for adding $100,000 more to the debt for an enterprise which may or may not be successful, and which, in any event, cannot benefit the State or the schools to any appreciable extent.
