Full Text

However it may be regretted that the American squadron cannot sail with the British squadron, it is now proved beyond all doubt that in every seaman-like requisite Com. Chauncey is superior to his vaunted antagonist, who has been out manoeuvred, out fought, and out done in every thing but sailing. The Pike's engaging the whole hostile fleet was certainly a most dashing exploit, and is a fine rebuke to all such drones as were ready to stick their venom into his reputation, because he did not bring Yeo to action lately. It must afford every man of manly feelings pleasure to perceive this indefatigable officer's fame thus vindicated from foul aspersions. Those who admire whatever is English to the prejudice of whatever is American may continue to boast the English commodore's superior skill and capacity, his fleet tactics and &c But it is now demonstration to the American mind that nothing but the superior fleetness of his fleet saved this redoubtable tar from a visit to Sackett's Harbor.
