SCOTT AND MCKIBBEN'S VOTES.—In the voting upon the reference to the select committee, Scott, of California, was found steadily with the Lecomptonites. McKibben, of California, voted unfalteringly in opposition. Every possible personal influence was brought to bear upon him. Even his father—a worthy gentleman whose sympathies are all with the Administration which appointed him to a valuable position in Philadelphia—though on the spot, was unable to induce him to yield the convictions of his own judgment. He held fast to the end; and, in addition to the consciousness of having performed his duty well, he will find substantial reward in the influence which he will exert in the future, when asking legislation for his own State.
