SENATE.—Petitions presented and referred.

Of Female Education Society for aid; of Geo. T. Rice and others, for incorporation as the Worcester and Nashua Telegraph Company.

A communication was received from the Governor relative to the appointment of a Commissioner to the Universal Exhibition at Paris, without expense to the State. Referred to the Committee on Manufactures.

Committees.—The President appointed the following gentlemen, on the part of the Senate, on the Committee on Federal Relations: —Messrs. Albee of Middlesex, and Pierce of Norfolk.

The following gentlemen were added to the House Committee on petitions for the formation of a new county:—Messrs. Palmer of Berkshire, and Batchelder of Essex.

HOUSE.—Petitions presented and referred.

Of the Fitchburg and Worcester Railroad Co for leave to carry their railroad into the village of Fitchburg; of Geo. N. Smith for the repeal of the act constituting a Police Court in the town of Blackstone, and sundry others.

Orders Rejected. An order to furnish members with copies of A. S. Barnes & Co.'s Constitutions of the Confederated States; also, an order that the Judiciary Committee consider the expediency of repealing the law empowering aliens to hold real estate in this Commonwealth.

Order Laid Over.—By Mr. Brown of Tolland, that the Committee on Education consider and report upon the expediency of removing from this House the Latin inscription over the Speaker's desk, and replace it by an English translation.

Committee Appointed.—The Speaker appointed the following gentlemen a committee on the subject of the petitions for the division of Worcester County; Messrs. Davis of Fall River, Johnson of Boston, Fisher of Cambridge, Perry of Salem, and Wilder of Brookline.

A resolve authorizing the State Treasurer to borrow money in anticipation of the revenue, was ordered to a third reading.

Orders adopted.—That the Secretary of State furnish to this House a schedule of the commissions issued in 1853 and 1854, with the objects of their appointment, and the sums paid to each member of the several commissions.

To consider the expediency of constituting the Boston Daily Bee the official organ for publishing the laws of this Commonwealth.

The order to procure the American Almanac for the use of members, was indefinitely postponed.

The Whig Party Snubbed.—Mr. Phelps of Lenox, moved that the use of the Hall of Representatives be granted to the Whig party to hold caucuses, when it is not previously engaged. Laid on the table.
