SATURDAY. AUGUST 10 1833

Cholera.—Our village has been thrown into considerable alarm and excitement by the appearance of a few cases of Cholera among us. Our physicians have reported 6 cases that have occurred during the present week, which they suppose to be Cholera, 4 of which have proved fatal It has thus far been confined to transient persons, whose habits and manner of living have been such as to render them most likely to take the disease—no cases have yet occurred among the regular citizens.

Many exaggerated reports are in circulation, calculated to create an alarm throughout the country, and although we do not wish to conceal facts, we conceive it would be equally improper to make or keep up any unnecessary excitement.— We believe that persons who may have occasion to visit our town, need not be deterred from apprehensions of the disease being contagious but that it may be viewed as an epidemic prevailing through the country.

With pleasure we learn that Dr. Warner has closed his grocery, and that he designs keeping it closed until the pestilence shall have left our village. We think it a commendable and humane act, and should be pleased to see the example followed. The use of ardent spirits is perhaps the most fatal of all practices therefore we can but admire and bestow unmerited praise on the philanthropic conduct of Dr. Warner.

In the North-western part of this county it has prevailed to a much greater extent than at this place. We have not a correct statement of the deaths, but we have heard that it is subsiding.
