"Anything wrong at home?" said the busy father as his pretty daughter stood before his broad desk.

"Not a thing in the world," said the pretty daughter, taking off her fur in a leisurely manner and placing it on the edge of the desk. "I have been at the library for a while and I just happened to remember that you said you went to luncheon at 1 o'clock and I thought we might as well eat together."

"Good idea, Kathleen," said the busy father, twirling the cover on his fountain pen. "I was going to lunch with Thompson at the club, but I'll have Miss Simpson call him up."

"Oh, if you have an engagement," said the pretty daughter, picking up her fur with a rapid little movement that seemed to suggest instant flight.

"It'll be fine to go out to lunch together," said her busy father. "I've been pressed for time all morning and I had planned to talk over the Mercer idea with him, but I'll be more than glad to get away from business for a few minutes. It's a bad thing to stick too close to business," he said as he took his hat.

"That's very true, dad, very true, indeed. I was thinking about you only a little while ago and I felt so sorry for you—the way you have to work and everything." Her voice was sympathetic and her father patted her shoulder.

"Don't you go to pitying your old dad," he protested. "I haven't such a bad time of it."

"But you have to be in the building all the sunny hours of the day," she went on.

"I can get out any time I choose," he defended. "I must speak to Miss Simpson on the way out."

"I'll tell her for you," offered the pretty daughter in her birdlike fashion. She
