The Two State Issues
In addition to selecting a president and vice president for the next four years and electing state and county officers and judges, Ohio voters must decide two important issues on the ballots Tuesday.
The News believes the proposal that a soldiers' bonus be awarded to veterans of the Korean conflict will pass, and sincerely hopes so. Veterans of both World Wars have been so rewarded, and it would not seem fair to do less for the boys who blocked the road to Communist domination of the Far East. Their's was an exasperating and thankless task. It is not too late for Ohioans to show some token of appreciation.
A bond issue not to exceed $90 million dollars would be authorized to provide bonuses not exceeding $400 for any individual.
The News likewise feels a favorable vote is deserved for the proposed constitutional amendment changing the term of members of the Ohio Senate from two to four years. Longer tenure of office will give the new senator a better opportunity to get acquainted with his work and the problems of the state before it is time to start campaigning for re-election—a sizeable job when some senatorial districts cover seven or more counties.
