CONSERVATION COST-SHARING REQUESTS MAY BE FILED

Requests from Richland county farmers for cost-sharing assistance under the 1959 Agricultural Conservation program are now being accepted, Arthur Anderson, Chairman of the County Agricultural Stabilization and Conservation committee, said this week.

This initial period for filing requests will continue until March 1, 1959, according to Mr. Anderson. All requests filed prior to that date will be considered by the county committee in making its first commitment of funds for cost-sharing. Applications filed after the closing of the initial sign-up period will be received on the basis that they will be considered for cost-sharing when and if funds are available and provided that the proposed conservation work has not been started.

All farmers and ranchers who plan to request cost-sharing to carry out conservation work this year are urged to file their requests during the initial sign-up period. If a producer wants to request assistance for more than one practice, he should indicate which of the practices requested he feels is most needed. Chairman Anderson explained that the county committee will be better able to determine how cost-sharing funds available to the county can be used if it has before it all the requests which producers anticipate filing at this time.

Richland county has been allocated $86,000.00 for cost-sharing assistance under the 1959 AC Program. This is approximately the same as the funds which were available for assistance under the 1958 program.

This year's county Agricultural Conservation Program offers farmers and ranchers cost-sharing to carry out the following types of conservation work:

A-2 Permanent grass establishment.
A-3 Crop-rotation grass establishment.
