HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES.

Monday, 11th November, 1811.

Reported for this Gazette.

Mr. Seybert presented a petition from sundry merchants of Philadelphia, praying liberty to import certain goods from Great-Britain. Mr. Mitchill presented a similar petition from New-York, and Mr. Pitkin a similar one from Newhaven [Conn.] all of which were referred to the committee of commerce and manufactures. Mr. Lewis presented a petition from David Beck, praying for a Divorce. Referred to the committee on the District of Columbia. Mr. Brigham presented a petition from Thomas Dennie, of Massachusetts, Card-manufacturer, praying liberty to import a quantity of Wine from Montreal. Referred to the committee of commerce and manufactures. Mr. Quincy presented a petition of a like tenor from Samuel R. Miller & Co. merchants of Boston, which was referred to the same committee. On motion of Mr. Rhea, Resolved, That the committee of post-offices and post-roads be instructed to bring in a bill authorizing the members of the senate and house of representatives to frank the president's message at the opening of the present session, and the documents accompanying it. Mr. Rhea soon afterwards reported a bill for the above purpose which was read three times and passed. The resolution offered by Mr. Bacon on Friday, directing the committee of claims to enquire into the expediency of suspending the statutes of limitation in certain Cases, was taken up and agreed to. The Speaker laid before the house a statement from the Comptroller of the Treasury, of debts due to the U. S. of more than three years standing. Referred to the committee of ways and means. On motion of Mr. Davenport, Resolved That the house will proceed to the choice of a Chaplain on their part, tomorrow, at twelve o'clock. Mr. Johnson moved that the petition of Samuel Hanson, of the district of Columbia presented at a former session, (praying compensation for services) be again referred to the committee of claims. Agreed to. Mr. --- presented a petition from certain merchants of Salem, praying relief on account of a vessel condemned under the Berlin and Milan decrees. Referred to the committee of commerce and manufactures. Mr. Poindexter presented a petition from sundry inhabitants of the Mississippi Territory, praying to be allowed further time for the payment of public lands. Referred to the committee on public lands.
