November the Banner Month-Coal Being Shipped to New Orleans.
Blossburg, Dec. 9.-(Special.)-Last month proved the banner one in the history of this place in shipments of coal and coke. Two thousand cars were forwarded and could the Southern railway have given better service another hundred would have been added. Many new houses were built and numerous others are now in process of construction, and every one has some one wanting to move in. Every house in the community is occupied and many others in demand.
Effective the 1st instant Mr. James W. Alexander, who the past four years operated the No. 2 drift mine, was appointed mine boss of No. 1 mine, vice Mr. T. F. Winters, transferred to No. 4 mine. Mr. Alexander is a coal-getter and we bespeak the same success for him in his larger field that he achieved in the smaller.
The Sloss Iron and Steel company has appointed Mr. Womack to look after its interest here and we trust his intrinsic worth will attach him to the company and operators.
Major Tutwiler's new mines are now putting out 300 tons daily, which is sold in the New Orleans market.
Mr. A. S. Leath, formerly with the Corona company, has been added to the store force, and Mr. John Tyler, formerly assistant cashier of the Radford bank of Virginia, to the office. We extend to each a cordial welcome and plenty of hard work.
Mrs. Tutwiler is much missed by everyone since her removal to Birmingham, and we were quite selfish enough to regret to see her go.
Mr. Charles Kesmodel, who, with his bright little family, attended the exposition with the Birmingham school party, reports a glorious time.
Mr. and Mrs. N. B. Gay of Coalburg paid our town a visit recently. Come again; we are always glad to see you.
Mrs. T. A. Payne is on a visit to her sister at Frankfort, Ky.
Buy Xmas presents from Methodist Bazaar. Opens December 17th, 4th avenue and 20th street.
