THE CIVIC SYMPHONY ORCHESTRA OF BOSTON, founded in 1925 by Joseph Wagner, who was its conductor until 1944, will begin its 1955-56 season December first. with an all Sebelius program, under the distinguished baton of Paul Cherkassky.

This program which includes the first performance in the United States of Sebelius' Three Songs for Voice and Orchestra. is of special significance to Mr. Cherkassky, for he and the beloved composer are old friends and the concert honors the ninetieth birthday of this great music master of Finland.

Paul Cherkassky, former conductor of Symphony Orchestra National Radio of Finland and famous throughout Europe, is familiar to Boston audiences. For many years he was first violinist in Boston Symphony Orchestra and often guest conductor at 'Pops' and Esplanade concerts. He became permanent conductor of Civic Symphony in 1944.

The celebrated soprano Greta Barrot-Milk, who is a graduate of Sebelius Academy of Music and student of the world famous teachers Battistini and Tetrazzina of Italy, will be the guest soloist. We heard Miss Milk this season on Jules Wolffers' Radio FM Program, 'Let's Talk About Music', when she performed in joint recital with her famous husband Leonid Milk. Pianist-Composer in his original compositions of Estonian Music.

In April, the Civic Symphony Orchestra will have as it guest soloist the brilliant young violinist ELWYN ADAMS. who has been predicted as the next Isaac Stern. Mr. Adams, who graduates from New England Conservatory of Music next spring, recently won first honors at Musical Competitions in Munich, Germany, and has received numerous awards from the Mass, Federation of Music Clubs.

Hosts of friends overflowed the violinist's home in Albermarle St. at a reception which was shared by his sister Armenta, (Pianist at Julliard). Some of the guests included Mesdames Geneva Shaw, Estella Crosby, Helen Mann. Elizabeth Wheatley, Florence Blake, Edith Boles, Julia Gamby, Maude Hutchins, Misses Gladys Holmes and Georgia Bailey, Dr. William Rhodes. James Jones, Buckner Gamby. Mr. and Mrs. Ernest O'Banyoun and others.

Elwyn is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Albert Adams of Cleveland and Boston.
