Chester.—The personal friends of Dr. P. O. Edson have presented him with a sword, belt and sash, which were forwarded to Burlington last week, with the following:

"To Dr. P. O. Meara Edson, Ass't Surgeon 1st Reg. Vt. Cavalry: Dear Sir:—Your present relation to the great work of vindicating our invaluable constitution (bleeding traitors and healing loyal men) is such that the undersigned, your fellow citizens of Chester, feeling a lively interest in your welfare, and the utmost confidence that the important and responsible duties devolving upon you will be fully and faithfully discharged, take pleasure in presenting you with the accompanying sword, belt and sash, as a slight token of the high regard which we entertain for you. That God may bless and protect you, and upon the restoration of peace, restore you, unharmed, to the home of your childhood, is our earnest prayer."

Signed by 65 citizens—but not one-fourth of his friends.
