Abandoning his chair on skates for his 1924 model tin coupe, Rodney A. Wearmuth, 46, well known El Centro "skatestrian" last night set out to celebrate in proper and befitting manner.
But for the first time since he appeared in El Centro some time ago, Wearmuth ran afoul of the law, with the result he spent most of last night in the county jail, a charge of driving while under the influence of intoxicating liquor being lodged against his name in jail books.
While Wearmuth awaits trial before Judge Kendall B. Perkins Monday morning, his car remains in front of the police station, a trunk strapped to the top, a chair, lantern, jug, canteen, boxes and sacks affixed in mysterious manner to various parts of the automobile's aged anatomy.
Dragging behind, and almost touching the ground, is an old pair of trousers. Fastened just in front of the treasure-chest trunk on top of the car are three old tires and a couple of rims.
Wearmuth, whose legs are cut off above the knees, drove his car with a pair of specially prepared wooden legs.
