CONNECTICUT SECOND IN NUMBER OF PHONES

There were 1,467,871 telephones in New England on May 1st, 1933, according to figures recently compiled.

Massachusetts leads with 810,508 telephones, Connecticut follows with 292,183, Maine is third with 122,164, Rhode Island has 107,895, New Hampshire 78,048 and Vermont 57,073.

Of the telephones in Connecticut, 290,130 are served by the Southern New England Telephone Company.

The remaining 2,053 are served by four connecting companies, the Sharon, Woodbury, Huntington and Farmington Valley Telephone companies.

Besides the New England Telephone and Telegraph Company, 142 connecting and independent companies serve the 1,467,871 telephones in the other New England States.
