WASHINGTON MATTERS.

WASHINGTON, Jan. 15.—The house committee on territories devoted the session of yesterday to hearing arguments upon the claims of Utah for admission. The element seeking admission was represented by Delegate Caine, Franklin S. Richards and J. M. Wilson (attorney). In opposition were Judge Baskins, Gov. West, Mr. Ferry and Judge McBride. Richards made a long argument in favor of admission, declaring that the Gentiles have nothing to fear from it; declaring that the opposition is fomented in the interests of jobbery.
