Another Milestone.
With this issue the American is beginning on Volume VIII, having served its readers seven years.
While the past year—since September, 1920,—has been one of great changes in the economic life of the country—prices having been on a steady downward trend toward normalcy—it has been a year of growth for the American both as regards the newspaper and job plant. The landing of a big state printing contract on July 1st has increased the job printing in the plant considerable and made it necessary to increase the force when today there are altogether nine people employed in this office. The regular force up till a month ago was usually about six or seven. The state printing added to the increasing business received from factories, wholesale houses and others of the Twin Cities, Milwaukee, Duluth and other places, has also made it necessary to install another cylinder press, power paper cutter, Pearl jobber and a stitcher the past year. The cylinder press is a modern and high priced job machine Cottrell—with four form rollers, angle-geared table rollers and has perfect register.
The American was designated the official paper of the county again this year and the subscription list has seen a steady and substantial growth without ever offering any premiums as a bait.
We take this opportunity of thanking our customers as well as the entire community and all our readers for their loyal patronage in the past and hope that our service may merit a continuance of same.
