Girard College.--We visited this building a few days since, and took a hasty glance of it. Probably nothing in the Union not even the capitol of the United States; will compare with this superb structure when completed.--The plan is noble and beautiful--and no one can view it without admiration. The workmanship is done in the most substantial manner and the large blocks of marble, and the solid masonry, strike the beholder as indestructible by the hand of time; they will be as eternal as the hills. And its massive columns, defying the power of time. and outliving successive generations of men, undoubtedly in the remote centuries of futurity, will be regarded with wonder and veneration. The Girard College will stand as a noble monument of the munificence and patriotism of the founder while our liberties exist, and until anarchy or despotism shall triumph, and with sacrilegious hands, attempt to extinguish the last ray of civilization by razing it to the ground.

No man ever founded a better scheme of education: a good education and a good trade the best qualifications of a useful citizen and statesman.--Who can tell the good that will result to the world from this noble institution what new lights of science burst from the obscurity of the wilderness; what Franklins, Washingtons, Shermans, may be destined to adorn its coronet, what poets, philosophers, statesmen, heroes, shall be drawn from poverty to shine abroad upon the whole earth?--In vain the eye glances into the distant vista: the more we contemplate, the more divinely generous is the work. Blessed be the memory of its founder.
