Road Supervisors.-A great responsibility

rests upon Road Supervisors: they have the

interest and comfort of the people more in

their charge than some of them seem to im-

agine. if we are to judge by the complaints

which reach us for publication. but which we

generally withhold.

An advertisement lately gave notice of an

intended application to the County Commis-

sioners for the laying out of a new road near

the site of an old one. which had been mended

till it was no longer passable. That was not

in the 3rd District. But our friend Miller of

the 3rd does not always escape. We have be-

fore us a communication complaining bitterly

of his neglect of the road and foot log near

Marley. charging certain serious accidents to

his account. and finally ending as follows:

Mr. B. Miller was repeatedly solicited to

put up the foot log. but all to no purpose: at

length he replied in the following words : "If

you Know Nothings or Native American born

citizens will wheel round and vote with us

Democrats (as Mr. B Miller styled them.) we

will put you up a good foot bridge. and keep

your road in good order to the Plank Road.'

Now. gentlemen. is such language as that

Democracy or is it Tyranny ?. Good Lord

deliver us! Let us pause and reflect. I say

choose the Know Nothing or American ticket

for it eventually must and will reign through

out these United States. Now. gentlemen.

does not the reply of Benj. Miller. who is

supervisor of said road. make use of a strange

political dodge. or in other words. vote with

the foreigners and their allies and we will

keep your road good. and your foot bridge in

order. Why this is quite a new way of elec-

tioneering. Yes. Mr. B Miller further states

and says the President has a right to call out

the troops and shoot down the American born

citizens at Washington; so Mr. B. Miller has

a right to be the means of drowning the na-

tive born Americans in Little Elk Creek. by

neglecting the foot log. and have the foreign-

ers to help to assist them in gaining their

elections.
