From the Army of the Potomac.

WASHINGTON, July 24.

A letter from the army of the Potomac dated yesterday, says nothing of particular interest has occurred for the past two days. The skirmishing on Burnside's front on Friday afternoon was quiet, but without injury to our men. This seems to be the only part of the line where it may be said that the firing is almost unceasing.

Gen. Grant has assigned the command of the 10th corps to Gen. Birney, who proceeded to his new corps on Saturday morning. Gen. Birney well deserved his promotion, no division of the army having performed nobler service during the campaign than his. His personal staff accompanies him.

Gen. Mott succeeds to the command of the 3d division.
