Full Text

Gen. Longstreet.

The Yankee journals are forced to acknowledge the skill, efficiency and success with which Gen. Longstreet has conducted the Confederate movements in East Tennessee. Gen. Longstreet is one of the most sagacious and indefatigable of our military leaders. His fame grows with a steady light, and the wider the field of action the more are his rare qualities of chieftainship developed and demonstrated. It was always known that in battle his presence, like the white plume of Harry of Navarre, announced the post of honor and of danger. But it remained for his management of a separate and important command to exhibit those faculties in administration and counsel which constitute the great military leader that equilibrium of intellect and heroism which, in the opinion of Napoleon, made the consummate General. We look forward with pride and hope to the future career of Longstreet.
