Lincoln's Firmness. The Washington correspondent of the New York Herald writing on Saturday night, respecting the contest for the Cabinet offices, says: Lincoln is a Gibraltar; terrific waves of politicians cannot move him.

Some twenty-eight or thirty years ago, Horatio King, the present Postmaster General, and Hannibal Hamlin, the present Vice President, were engaged in publishing a weekly newspaper in the small and obscure village of Paris, on the Little Androscoggin river, way down in Maine.
