NEW DRUGS FIGHT MOUTH CANCERS
Dr. Sidney Farber, pathologist for the Children's Cancer Research Foundation in Harvard Medical School, recently told the American Association of Pathologists and Bacteriologists two drugs have been found with strong destroying action against several forms of cancer in mice.

Dr. Farber's report was the first on these two drugs made public and although results in mice have no immediate or direct application to man, until actual tests on humans are conducted, the report is of significance. It indicates that the fight against cancer might be dramatically ended one day with the discovery of a drug that halts the ominous process of growing and dividing cancerous cells in the human body.

Dr. Farber said experiments with the new drugs, which are puromycin and actinomycin D, are most effective in destroying four forms of cancer in mice and two forms of leukemia. He also reported the drugs will soon be tried against human forms of cancer, although he would not predict the results.

Farber believes that discovery of the effect of these drugs on cancer makes it "mandatory" that researchers make a detailed study of the hundreds of antibiotics which have been made available in recent years. He believes it may be possible that some of these antibiotics would be effective against certain forms of diseases, possibly some forms of cancer.
