Jobs, education, and rehabilitation facilities for Maryland veterans of the present war were pledged by Governor O'Conor in an address before the opening session of the 26th annual convention of the Maryland Department of the American Legion in Baltimore.
"Even if present State laws must be amended, I am determined that every disabled Maryland veteran will find compensation," the Governor said, to the acclaim of about 1,100 Legionnaires and members of the auxiliary.
The State's chief executive said that 17,000 Marylanders in the armed forces have applied for absentee voting ballots, and predicted that more such applications would be received before the November election.
The last week has brought 4,000 requests, he announced.
