RIOTS ON THE CANAL.

The Hagerstown Torch Light of yesterday states that Col. Hollingsworth's Cavalry left that place on Tuesday afternoon for the Canal. They were to be joined at Clear-Spring, by the Corps under Major Barnes, and would then proceed together west of Hancock, where they were to be met by an infantry company from Cumberland.

The movement is made, as we learn from the Torch Light, in consequence of "the disturbed state of the line of Canal in the neighborhood of 'Little Orleans,' and the continued lawless and uncontrollable conduct of a portion of the laborers." The names of many of the most prominent actors in these riots, are said to be in possession of the military, and the parties would doubtless be arrested forthwith, on the arrival of these troops in the disturbed district. The Torch Light says:-

"Should the principal offenders be arrested, they will, of course, be handed over to the Civil Authorities, to be prosecuted according to law; and in the mean time, it is expected that the Canal Company, their Contractors and Agents, will dismiss from employment all those who manifest a disposition to be riotous."

The same paper has the following extract of a letter from the Canal (no date given):-

"Our line is in a disturbed state, we are looking daily for some fresh out-break—and it will take place soon—nothing but a standing force can be of any benefit here, and that must come soon or we shall have terrible times."
