There is news that Escobedo was murdered by Canales. A general insurrection of all parties occurred at Matamoros on the capture of Escobedo, and Canales, as the representative of Ortega, had Escobedo put to death on the morning of the 21st, and then assumed command himself. Preparations were making for a general fight, and chaos ruled the hour in Matamoros. Tallahassee Brough, the Brownsville courier to New Orleans, brings news of the escape of Ortega to the interior just as he left. The announcement of the hanging of Escobedo was being believed.
