Suicide Flyer Safely Back And Lodged In Jail

ANCHORAGE, Alaska, Aug. 22.-(A.P.)-Frank Dorbandt, famed Alaska flier, was safely back in Anchorage today-in jail.

His return late yesterday ended the mystery of his disappearance and talk of an "aerial suicide." It likewise ended search of a rugged territory and fears of friends inspired by his strange threat, "You'll never see me again," shouted as he took the air here Sunday night in his big tri-motored plane.

The hero of a hundred northland adventures said he left on his mystery flight in a fit of anger because Aeronautics Inspector Murray Hall ordered him grounded for breaking aviation regulations. The intervening two days he spent on Susitna river, 60 miles away.

Waiting at the airport for Dorbandt's return was Deputy Marshal Frank Hoffman, who escorted him to jail. Bondsmen, on whose bond the daring aviator had been at liberty under federal fur smuggling charges, had withdrawn their backing.

Friends sought today to raise $2,500 bail.

Besides the smuggling charges Dorbandt faces a filiation suit brought by a 19-year old girl.
