The President was detained several days at Old Point Comfort in consequence of the dangerous illness of his grandchild, and the indisposition of one of his daughters, whom he desired to conduct in person to the White Sulphur Springs.
During the detention of the President from the city, by the serious illness in his family, an immense amount of letters, &c., have accumulated on his hands, to which he will doubtless devote his constant attention for several days.
We would respectfully suggest to the citizens from a distance, now in the city, who are desirous of having their business with the President promptly despatched, to submit to him in writing, whatever they may desire of him, accompanied with such memorials, testimonials, and other documents as they intended to present in person. By such means their matters will surely be attended to promptly; whereas it may be some days before audiences can be obtained by those having business to transact of a personal or private nature.
